Some of the most important work Bhanu Choudhrie has done has been in the aviation sector. He first purchased a small airline in India, named Air Deccan. When it was acquired, it was operating with just one airplane. After five years, the airline offered as many as 200 flights a day and could transport seven million passengers annually. It was no small feat to make a successful investment in the aviation business in India, where it is culturally accepted to take days long train rides in order to travel from one place to another. But Bhanu Choudhrie made smart decisions that caused the airline to flourish, even when infrastructure was bad and oil prices rose.
What is the secret to success? Bhanu Choudhrie would answer that continuing education, even past your schooling years, is the way to stay relevant. He suggests that keeping up with current events all over the world, and keeping your mind stimulated with books are some of the best ways to stay ahead of the pack. He also makes time every day to exercise, because he comes up with his best ideas when he’s doing something physical that he enjoys, and it keeps his energy levels up even when he’s traveling all over the world.
Bhanu Choudhrie vocally eschews the modern concept of fearing failure. To him, failure is an important lesson that allows you to make better decisions in the future. It takes both courage and a positive mindset to benefit from failure, but these are indispensable qualities to have while working in the business sector.
His favorite quote is a Swedish proverb that reflects his mindset well: “Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow.”
